Cardada

Cardada is the scenic local mountain above Locarno and a perfect destination for a short yet impressive excursion in Ticino.

The most convenient way up is via Orselina: the cable car takes you in around 5 minutes from approximately 395 m above sea level to Cardada at 1,340 m above sea level. If you want to go higher, take the chairlift onwards to Cimetta (around 1,670 m above sea level).

At the top, a spectacular panorama awaits, stretching across Lake Maggiore and the surrounding mountains – including the famous view of Switzerland’s lowest and highest points (Lake Maggiore/Dufourspitze).

A highlight is the “floating” viewing platform, which seems to hang right above the valley.
At Cimetta, a circular geological observatory adds to the experience, explaining the landscape and the region’s tectonic plates.

There are also easy walking trails, hikes and activities for families – ideal if you want to combine nature, views and enjoyment.
